ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Thursday chaired a meeting, which was attended by Minister for Law Farooq H. Naek, Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain and the Secretaries of Cabinet and Petroleum Divisions, and Chairman OGRA to discuss import of LNG and LPG on fast-track basis in a transparent manner.
Keeping in view the urgency of matter, Prime Minister constituted a committee headed by the Minister for Law and Justice, which would consist of Secretaries of Law and Justice, Petroleum and Natural Resources and Chairman OGRA. The Committee has been mandated to prepare a self-contained working paper within two days suggesting measures on how to import LPG and LNG within two-three months to overcome gas shortage in the forthcoming winter when its demand would increase substantially.
Prime Minister emphasised that time was of essence as delayed action outweighs the benefits which were likely to accrue to the people. An immediate solution be found to the problems affecting the people at large, the PM said.
The Minister for Law and Justice said that the working paper would focus on reducing wastage of gas without hitting domestic and industrial sectors, conservation of gas, demand and supply estimates both in summer and winter and immediate exploration and production of gas.
