MILAN: Italian auto giant Fiat on Tuesday said its net profit in the second quarter plunged to 358 million euros ($440 million) despite a rise in operating profits due to its newly-acquired US arm Chrysler.

The group said its performance in the first half of the year meant it could confirm its annual forecast for a net profit of 1.2-1.5 billion euros and sales of more than 77 billion euros.
